The Bulgarian Association for Development of Psychomotricity has launched an online series “The Child’s Body in Preschool”.
We will present a series of topics related to the child’s body – nutrition, hygiene, separation from parents and socializing, free time, organization of the day and play (independently and with the participation of an adult) and more.
We will invite professionals (teachers, pediatricians, psychomotor specialists, etc.) from around the world who have an understanding of wholeness (holism) and who, like us, believe that in addition to the mind (which we teach/train), the kindergarten child’s body deserves attention and respect. These will also be professionals who have been through the process of change – from an institutional model of educating and nurturing children to a free, playful, respectful model for children’s minds and bodies.
We hope that this, albeit virtual experience, will be useful for Bulgarian Kindergarten professionals.
The first topic is “A day in a Psychomotor Kindergarten in Switzerland”.
Isabelle Walser and Annie Mumford, long-term teachers in Swiss Kindergartens and Psychomotor specialist will take us on an imaginary tour in a kindergarten in Switzerland.
If we enter a Kindergarten, what will we see and what will impress us? What questions will we ask and what answers will we get?
– How many kids are taught there and what is the number of their teachers?
– How is their day going?
– Which moments are critical for crisis initiation?
– How specialists in this type of nurturing environment evaluate children’s development?
Isabelle and Annie will report about their efforts towards introducing a well-being program in Pre-school education. We will try to understand this innovation versus the outdated status quo it replaced. We will discuss the Swiss education in the past and the new and progressive approaches in child rearing as they are applied today.
